Cookies and browser storage

Browser storage, clipboard access and downloaded files are different things. Here is how they relate to this site.

What cookies do

Cookies are small records a website can ask your browser to store and return with later requests. LocalStorage is a separate browser storage mechanism that can retain information between visits. Both can be used for useful preferences or for tracking, depending on their implementation.

What the site’s own code uses

The educational pages and supplied site script do not set analytics or advertising cookies, create tracking identifiers or save contact notes in localStorage. Navigation state and animation state are held temporarily in memory. No third-party videos, remote fonts or embedded social widgets are loaded by these pages.

Any separately presented consent controls describe and manage the storage choices they cover. Optional processing should not begin before the applicable choice. Browser-level blocking can also restrict cookies or site storage, although it may affect features on other sites.

The contact-note tool

Building a preview keeps the note in the current page. Copy asks the browser to write that preview to your clipboard after you press the button. Download creates a plain-text file using a temporary local object URL. These actions do not send the note to us.

Closing or reloading the page may discard the note, while your browser may restore form entries through its own features. Clipboard history and downloaded files are controlled by your device and may persist independently of the website. Delete them yourself if they contain information you no longer want retained.

External websites and email

Scientific references open resources operated by other organisations. Those sites may set their own cookies and have separate notices. An email link opens your email application; your provider’s storage and privacy practices apply there. Simply reading our references list does not load those external pages.

Your controls

Use your browser’s privacy settings to review, block or delete cookies and site data. Clearing browser storage does not remove downloaded files or emails you have already sent. If a consent interface stores your choice, deleting that preference may cause the interface to ask again.
